Winston-Salem man arrested following I-77 traffic stop

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday March 3, 2018 at approximately 10:25 pm, Deputy J. Smith and Sgt. L. Hayes with the Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (A.C.E) Team, along with the North Carolina Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle on Interstate 77 South at Mile Marker 37 for a traffic violation.

While speaking with the driver, Julian Giavanni Johnson, officers’ could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Deputies searched the vehicle and located a loaded firearm hidden along with Promethazine, which is a classified as a Schedule V drug. Deputies learned the firearm was stolen out of Greensboro, and Johnson has multiple felony convictions which prohibits him from possessing firearms.

Julian Giavanni Johnson was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with Felony Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Possession of Stolen Firearm, Misdemeanor Carrying Concealed Weapon and Misdemeanor Possession of Schedule V. Julian Johnson was taken before Magistrate D. Chambers, where he received a $20,000.00 secured bond.
