Victims identified in UNC Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WSIC) – UNC Charlotte has released the names of those killed and injured when a gunman open fired on campus Tuesday afternoon.

Riley C. Howell (21 – Waynesville, North Carolina) and Ellis R. Parlier (19 – Midland, North Carolina) were both killed. Those injured are Rami Alramadhan (20 – Saihat, Saudia Arabia), Sean Dehart, ( 20 – Apex, North Carolina), Emily Houpt (23 – Charlotte, North Carolina), and Drew Pescaro (19 – Apex, North Carolina).

CMPD has charged Trystan Terrell, 22, with two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm on educational property, and discharging a firearm on educational property.

Officers were called to campus around 5:40 Tuesday evening based on a report of an active shooter in the Kennedy Building. The campus remained on lockdown overnight before it was lifted nearly twelve hours later. Exams have been canceled through Sunday and the campus is on suspended operations.

The hashtag “UNCC” trended on Twitter with reactions and calls for action from the public, officials, and even presidential candidates.

Investigation of Tuesday’s shooting continues.
