Two wanted in fatal Iredell stabbing investigation back in Statesville

Nearly a month after a woman was stabbed to death in West Iredell, two wanted by the Sheriff’s Office in that investigation are back in Statesville.

Chief Deputy Bert Connolly says Brenda Evey and Dakota Drake arrived overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. They were arrested near Amarillo, Texas shortly after the crime occurred and were eventually extradited with help from a third party company via the NC Department of Corrections.

Evey is accused of stabbing Christian Inman April 26th and is charged with murder. She’s being without bond. Dakota Drake is charged with accessory after the fact of murder. He’s being held under a $500,000 bond.

Both make their next court appearances at the end of July.


Sheriff Darren Campbell stated On April 26, 2018, Deputies from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to Iredell Memorial Hospital to a reported stabbing. Once at the Hospital they found Christina Leigh Inman, W/F 20 year old female had been stabbed and was in in critical condition. Deputies learned the incident happened on Wagon Trail Ln., Statesville. Deputies and Detectives responded to the scene while others continued to gather information at the hospital.

According to information gathered during the investigation, the suspects, Drake and Evey went to the address on Wagon Trail Ln. where the victim, Inman was with her boyfriend. Drake and Evey were there to settle a debt for a narcotics deal that occurred several months prior. An argument insued between Evey and the Inman. The statements indicate that Evey stabbed Christina Inman multiple times during the altercation. After the altercation indications are that Evey and her Drake assisted in transporting the victim to the hospital in a personal vehicle.

Ms. Inman was treated at Iredell Memorial and then transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for emergency surgery but sadly died as result of the stab wounds. Evidence indicate that after the victim was taken to the hospital Drake and Evey fled the state last known to be in TN. The suspects were last seen driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy that is blue in color NC license plate # VE-62740.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Brenda Kaylee Gabrielle Evey for Murder and Dakoda Michael Drake for Accessory After the Fact Felony. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is using all available means to locate the suspects.
