Two pronounced dead at the scene of accident in Lincoln County

On 21 July 2019 at approximately 3:30 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision in Lincoln County on NC 182 near Sorrells Baxter Road. A 2014 Ford Mustang was traveling south on NC 182 when it ran off the road to the right, struck a fence, overturned, and struck a utility pole. The driver, Caleb Andrew Clark, 22, of Vale was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A right front passenger, Hugh Matthews Hester Jr., 23, of Lincolnton was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the rear seat received minor injuries and was transported to Atrium Health Cleveland.

Speeding and alcohol use are suspected as contributing factors. The collision continues to be under investigation.
