On Monday February 10, 2014 Detective Lieutenant Bill Hamby and Detective Sergeant Amy Dyson met with a woman at the Special Victims Unit to discuss possible sexual assaults occurring where her daughters were the victims.
On February 20, 2014 the children were interviewed at the Dove House Child Advocacy Center. Det. Sgt. Dyson was present and observed the interviews. Det. Sgt. Dyson was able to receive statements from witnesses in this case.
The suspect, R. Jeffrey Speaks 57, of Oak Lawn Rd. Troutman was interviewed on Monday March 3, 2014 by Det. Sgt. Dyson.
As a result of this case the suspect was charged with 16 counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child. The suspect was arrested without incident at Troutman Middle School where he is employed as a Data Controller.
Jeffrey Speaks was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center and was placed under 200,000.00 dollars secured bond.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing however at this time, there is nothing which would lead the detectives to believe any crime occurred on any school property or involving any child at Troutman Middle School.
