Statesville woman charged with Felony Identity Theft


Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, June 20, 2020, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to Identity Theft, and unapproved Financial Card charges.

When the responding deputies interviewed the victim, they learned the victim had been away on a business trip, someone had used his personal information to open various accounts in his name, and his bank card had been used to make various transactions without his knowledge or approval.

Detective C. Scannella with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit was assigned the case. Detective Scannella met with and interviewed the victim, gathered various items of evidence from various business locations. After compiling all of the evidence, Cody Tenile Gray was identified as the person responsible.

Based on this information, Detective Scannella obtained arrest warrants on Cody Tenile Gray for Six Counts of Felony Identity Theft, and Felony Uttering a Forged Instrument.

Gray was arrested on Thursday, June 25, 2020. She was and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where she was served with her warrants. Gray then appeared before Magistrate S. Watkins who issued a 6,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.
