The Statesville Planning Board met in a called meeting on Monday to consider an amendment to the City’s regulations regarding a flag’s size in the highway business zoning districts. The Planning Board unanimously approved a recommendation to increase the size from 25′ x 40′ to 40′ x 80′.
The Planning Board’s recommendation is just that – a recommendation. It will be presented to City Council at its June 17 meeting as part of the request to amend the code. A text amendment requires two votes by Council before it can be enacted.
A proposed text amendment must go before the Planning Board prior to coming to Council. It also requires that a public hearing be conducted prior to consideration. The public hearing will be held at Monday’s meeting.
On May 29, Statesville Mayor Costi Kutteh asked the Planning Department to draft a code amendment that will allow the 40’x80′ flag at Gander RV to continue flying.
As part of the Planning Board’s recommendation, they asked the code contain additional language enhancing the engineering and design of the flag poles, and also advised to add language referencing the U.S. Flag Code as found in Title 4 of the United States Code.
