Statesville City Council candidate has DWI conviction

STATESVILLE, N.C. (WSIC NEWS) – A candidate for Statesville City Council has a DWI conviction in his criminal history.

Court records show ward six candidate Marvin Laxton was charged with DWI December 28, 2011 and pleaded guilty in August 2012. Laxton is still legally qualified to run for office. A call to him for comment was not returned.

Laxton did not respond to WSIC’s ward six candidate survey or participate in the station’s candidate forum.
