On January 08, 2014 the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received reports of two trucks from Asplundh Tree Expert Company. The trucks were at a local store on Wilkesboro Highway near Love Valley, there were approximately seven chainsaws and climbing gear stolen estimated at approximately $4,000.00. During the investigation detectives learned that the suspect(s) may have had a key due to the fact there was no forced entry into the trucks.
Detectives from Iredell were aware of cases in the area of the Wilkes and Iredell County lines, and began to work the cases together. During the joint investigation detectives learned that Joshua Russell Mchargue age 20 had pawned and traded chainsaws for narcotics. Detectives executed a search warrant at a house in Wilkes County that was suspected in selling narcotics, where detectives recovered the stolen property. Wilkes County Detectives also seized several items from pawn shops and the suspect’s home in Wilkes County.
Iredell County Detectives were able to match the serial numbers to the chainsaws which had been stolen from Asplundh Tree Expert Company. Detectives were also able to match the serial number from a leaf blower to one that was stolen during a breaking and entering case at the Wilkes- Iredell Fire Department.
Iredell County Detectives also learned during the course of the investigation that Joshua Russell Mchargue was a former employee of the Asplundh Tree Expert Company and was let go at the end of December 2013. Detectives spoke with employees of the Asplundh Tree Expert Company and learned that day after Joshua Russell Mchargue was let go two of the trucks that were parked in Statesville and had four chainsaws stolen. Iredell County Detectives were able to match several of the serial numbers from chainsaws recovered that linked back to Joshua Russell Mchargue to one that were stolen.
There have been four felony larceny charges and four breaking and entering of a motor vehicle filed against Joshua Russell Mchargue 20,of Statesville Rd. in Wilkes County. There are also multiple other felony charges against Mchargue in surrounding counties for similar incidents.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office continues to try and maintain a good working relationship with other agencies to further try and locate and prosecute criminals for crimes against citizens of Iredell County.
