Sheriff’s Office: Intoxicated man shoots at wife, misses

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On December 28th, 2014 at approximately 7:20 p.m. the Iredell County 911 center received a call reporting a possible domestic dispute at a residence in the 700 block of Chal Dr. in Statesville.

The caller stated their neighbors were arguing and the caller believed they heard a gunshot coming from the residence.

Deputies arrived and were met outside the residence by Mr. Herman Wayne Christie 60, of the residence. Mr. Christie stated the argument between he and his wife was over him drinking to much alcohol.

Deputies then spoke to Mrs. Christie who stated, Mr. Christie had put a gun to his head making threats that he would kill himself.

Deputies also learned that Mr. Christie then pointed the gun at his wife, threatened to kill her, fired the gun in her direction and missed.

Mrs. Christie was able to leave the residence uninjured and waited on deputies to arrive.
Upon further investigation deputies found Mr. Christie in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Mr. Christie was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia. Due to this being a domestic case Mr. Christie was place on a no bond for the assault with a deadly weapon and a $1,500.00 secured bond for the drug charges.
