Sheriff Darren Campbell stated that on 7-6-15 Lt. C.L. Stone of the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop on a 2011 Honda on Brawley Rd. after clocking the vehicle at 62 m.p.h. in a 45 m.p.h. speed zone. Stone spoke to the driver, Jarquil D. Steward, and advised him of the reason he had been stopped. Steward was unable to produce his drivers license, therefore, Stone had him to sit in the front passenger seat of his patrol car while he issued him a citation. During this time Stone discovered that Steward is a convicted felon and has numerous prior charges of illegal drug possession. Stone then questioned Steward about the possibility of there being illegal contraband inside his vehicle. A search of the vehicle was then conducted where a passenger, Petrina L. McDaniels, 37, of Cleveland was found to be in possession of 20 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. McDaniels was then charged with possessing more than ½ oz. of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. McDaniels is also a convicted felon with a prior history of illegal drug possession.
