Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Man on Fraud Charges Following a Chase on Foot

Lincolnton, NC – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Greg Hager was traveling Highway 73 on March 27, 2020 when he recognized a man wanted in connection with several incidents of fraud walking near the Japan Restaurant and Midtown Sundries.

When the officer exited his vehicle the suspect fled the scene on foot into a nearby wooded area.  Charlie District deputies, narcotics investigators and detectives responded to the area to search for the suspect, David Allen Buchanan, 25, of Nellie Circle, Stanley, NC.  One of the narcotics officers saw Buchanan behind a residence in the 300 block of South NC Highway 16 Business.  A short time later the suspect was found in the basement of that home.

Buchanan is charged with four felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, felony identity theft, resist, delay and obstruct a public officer and misdemeanor breaking and entering.  Deputies also served two outstanding orders for arrest and a probation violation warrant.  He was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $44,000 secured bond.  He is also being held on a no bond hold from Mecklenburg County where he faces additional charges.
