Robbery reported at downtown Statesville business

PRESS RELEASE

Statesville NC: On Wednesday morning, December 20, 2017, SPD officers and Investigators responded to a reported robbery at the Highlife Smoke Shop located at 222 W. Broad St.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with employees who said that a man had come into the store and robbed the business.

The suspect entered the business with his hands in his pockets and approached the employee at the register. The suspect pointed from inside his front jacket pockets, implying that he was armed. The suspect then demanded money. The employee complied and opened the register. Upon doing so, the suspect reached in and grabbed cash from the drawer of the register. The suspect then fled from the store on foot. The suspect never displayed a weapon, and no employees were injured.

SPD officers and Investigators investigated the scene, canvassed downtown businesses, and searched the surrounding areas for the suspect. The suspect, however was not located.

The suspect was described as a male with a light skin complexion, wearing a Black and Red Chicago Bulls jacket with a white stripe with the hood pulled up, what appeared to be red and black camouflage pattern pants, Black or Gray high top sneakers with White trim. The suspect was possibly between 5’6” and 5’8”.
