Registered Sex Offender Charged with Child Sexual Assault

  

Lincolnton, NC – A registered sex offender living in Lincoln County has been charged in connection a child sexual assault.

On April 28, 2020 the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a report of inappropriate touching of a juvenile female who was known by the suspect. The juvenile was between the ages of five years old and eight years old at the time of the incident. An interview of the victim was conducted at the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center.

The incident occurred at a residence on Woodgate Lane north of Lincolnton. On May 21, 2020 Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Dan Renn charged and arrested Austin Michael Fredell, 23, of West Sycamore Street, Lincolnton, NC with felony indecent liberties with a minor. He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

Fredell was convicted on a charge of attempted second degree rape in March of 2014. He was sentenced to more than eight years in prison but was released in August of 2016 and placed on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry.
