STATESVILLE, N.C. (WSIC) – Police have located the mother of 3-year-old Statesville twins who they say wandered away from home Thursday morning.

Both children are safe and unharmed. The girls were within a block of their home when they were located around 8:40 Thursday morning. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
The mother was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. Police contacted the Department of Social Services which will determine what happens to the twins.
