Police charge city employees in case of stolen patio furniture

PRESS RELEASE

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have charged Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control civilian employee, Brian Depue, with possession of stolen property. In addition, Mr. Depue’s father, Carl Depue, was charged with possession of stolen property and two counts of misdemeanor larceny. Carl Depue is an employee of the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT).

On Sept. 16, 2019, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Eastway Division officers were investigating a report of patio furniture that was stolen in the 1200 block of Rollins Avenue. The victim advised that home surveillance video footage showed someone stealing two chairs from her porch and putting them in a truck shortly after 11:00 p.m., on Sept. 14, 2019. The CMPD complaint number for this incident is 2019-0916-1052-01.

During the course of the criminal investigation, Carl Depue and Brian Depue were identified as suspects in this case. On Sept. 23, 2019, Eastway Division officers located and arrested both suspects and transported them to the Eastway Division office to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, they were transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

In addition to the criminal investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct an administrative investigation concerning the case.

Brian Depue, was hired by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on Feb. 25, 2019, and was assigned as a kennel assistant with CMPD’s Animal Care & Control. His termination hearing is pending.
