ON 02/02/2016 AT APPROX 0700 HRS, OFFICERS FROM THE TROUTMAN POLICE DEPARTMENT WERE DISPATCHED TO 230 KLUTZ ST IN REFERENCE TO A BURGLARY IN PROGRESS. UPON ARRIVAL OFFICERS SPOKE WITH THE HOME OWNER/VICTIM, WHO ADVISED THAT HE HEARD SOMEONE IN THE BASEMENT. WHEN HE WENT TO INVESTIGATE, HE HEARD A SUBJECT RUN OUT THE BASEMENT DOOR. OFFICERS REQUESTED K-9 ASSISTANCE, A K-9 TRACK WAS CONDUCTED. DURING THE TRACK, OFFICERS LOCATED A CELL PHONE. THE CELL PHONE WAS REPORTED STOLEN A FEW HOURS LATER FROM ANOTHER B&E OF A VEHICLE ON WEST THOMAS ST. AS THE MORNING PROGRESSED, A TOTAL OF 3 HOMES AND 4 VEHICLES WERE BROKEN INTO. AS ALL THE CALLS WERE BEING HANDELED, A LOCAL BUSINESS REPORTED A SUSPICIOUS WHITE FEMALE IN THE AREA OF TALLEY ROAD AND N. MAIN STREET. AS OFFICERS WERE CHECKING ON THE SUSPICIOUS WHITE FEMALE, OFFICERS DISCOVERED THAT THIS WAS THE SUSPECT TO ALL THE BREAKING AND ENTERINGS, ALONG WITH THE BURGLARY EARLIER IN THE MORNING. STOLEN ITEMS WERE FOUND ON THE SUSPCIOUS FEMALE. A SEARCH OF THE GENERAL AREA OF THE B & Es WERE CONDUCTED. STOLEN PROPERTY WAS LOCATED IN SMALL STASHES WHICH WERE HIDDDEN AROUND THE AREA OF THE BREAK-INS. IT APPEARED THE SUSPECT WAS GOING TO RETRIEVE THE STOLEN PROPERTY AT A LATER TIME AND DATE. DURING THE SUSPECT’S INTERVIEW AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, SHE ATTEMPTED TO ASSAULT A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFFICER.
ALL ITEMS STOLEN WERE RECOVERED AND IDENTIFIED BY THE VICTIMS. CHIEF MATTHEW SELVES AND THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE DIVISION CREDIT STRONG WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH TOWN RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES IN ASSISTING WITH THE LOCATION AND CAPTURE OF THIS SUSPECT.
