Police: 80-year-old home invasion victim shot after first shooting suspect

Brown is now accused by the Statesville Police Department of assaulting an 81-year-old man during a Stockton Street burglary earlier this month.  Details on that case can be found HERE.


Statesville NC: An 80 year old man was awakened late last night after 1 black male suspect wearing a mask forced open the victim’s back door and dragged the victim out of bed demanding money. The victim had a handgun nearby, was able to get to it, and shot at the suspect, the suspect then struggled with the victim and forced the gun away from the victim, and then shot the victim. The victim had also been pistol whipped at some point. The suspect then fled with the victim’s weapon, and cash that he had stolen.

Criminal Investigators responded to the scene for follow up, working throughout the night. The victim was taken by Iredell County EMS to Baptist Hospital for further treatment. The victim is expected to recover at this point.

Early this morning, SPD Investigators learned that a man from Statesville had arrived at CMC in Concord NC suffering from a gunshot wound. A Marcus Dshawn Brown, B/M, 40, of Statesville. Concord PD Investigators responded to CMC and extensively assisted in this investigation on their end.

As a result of the investigation, it was learned that Brown had apparently showed up at a residence on Newbern Ave. in Statesville late last night where he had someone drive him to an out of town hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound. Brown is expected to recover at this point.

SPD CID then responded to the scene in the 600 block of Newbern Ave., executed a search warrant, discovered Brown’s vehicle, as well as other items of evidence linking him to the home invasion and shooting of the victim on Buffalo Shoals Rd.

As a result of the extensive investigation, Warrants have been obtained on Marcus Dshawn Brown B/M, 40, of Statesville NC, and he will be arrested upon his release from the hospital for the offenses of: 1st Degree Burglary, Assault W/ Deadly Weapon W/ Intent to kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Common Law Robbery, Larceny of a firearm, Possession of firearm by a convicted felon. The investigation is ongoing and other charges are possibly pending resulting from this specific incident.
