Pedestrian injured in Statesville accident

PRESS RELEASE

At approximately 1935 hours this evening, Statesville PD responded to a motor vehicle crash where a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of West Front St. at South Race St. The pedestrian was crossing over S. Race Street travelling East on Front St. and was struck by a vehicle travelling North Bound on South Race St. The injured person was listed as John Smith (68 years old of Statesville) and was transported to IMH and is being transported to Baptist Hospital where he is listed in Critical but Stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle was listed as Thomas Preston Dill (27 years old of Mt. Ulla) who was operating a 1997 Chevy Blazer. According to a witness who was travelling on S. Race Street and witnessed the crash, the light was green in the Dill’s direction of travel. At this time speed does not appear to be a factor in this crash. The crash is still under investigation by Statesville PD’s Traffic Unit Officer Ben Hardy.
Statesville PD, NCSHP, Statesville Fire, Iredell County EMS and Iredell Rescue all responded to this crash.
