Pedestrian Fatality in Mooresville


MOORESVILLE, NC – On June 26 at 9:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision in the 100-block of East Plaza Drive. The first officer arrived on scene within one minute of dispatch. Officers from the Mooresville Police Department Traffic Safety and Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and conducted
the investigation. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene by Iredell County EMS.

The female victim, Bethis Armida Villatoro Velasquez of Mooresville, was wearing dark clothing and crossing a section of the highway with no lighting. She was transported to Lake Norman Hospital and an autopsy was performed by the medical examiner.

The operator of the motor vehicle, Dana Yewell Frank Santiago of Salisbury, remained on scene. After evaluating and interviewing the driver, neither impairment nor speed was a factor in this crash.

This investigation has been turned over to the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office for review.
