One person dead following Iredell hit-and-run

One person is dead following a hit-and-run on I-40 Thursday afternoon.

This happened on the westbound side near mile marker 158 not far from the Cool Springs exit. Citing witness reports, the Highway Patrol says a white Toyota Sienna pulling an aluminum trailer, possibly a U-Haul, came into the lane of a motorcycle where the two collided.

Another biker was able to follow the suspect vehicle and gather information. The Highway Patrol says the license plate of the trailer reads ZZR9037 and that the van was being driven by a white male last seen on I-77 north.

Trooper Stevenson says both riders were ejected from the bike. In addition to the deceased biker, another was taken to the hospital. His or her condition is presently unknown. While the names of those involved have not been released, the bikers are said to have been traveling from eastern North Carolina.
