One dead in early-morning Iredell camper fire

IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WSIC) – A Pennsylvania man died in a camper fire east of Statesville early Tuesday morning.

Major Andy Poteat with the Iredell county Sheriff’s Office identifies the victim as William Vacek, a 32 year-old resident of Mifflintown, Pennsylvania.  The preliminary investigation shows smoke inhalation as the suspected cause of death.  Foul play is not suspected.

Assistant Iredell County Fire Marshal Josh Levan tells WSIC the fire appears to have started in the camper’s kitchen area and burned the trailer so that only its floor was left.  He says the camper had been parked for between two weeks and a month at the Real McCoy Campground on Log Drive off Bethesda Road.
