Newton curbside recycling guidelines

NEWTON, NC—Newton offers the following guidelines for curbside recycling customers:

» Metal:  Aluminum and steel cans are recyclable. Empty and rinse before placing in your bin. No scrap metal, ladders, pots, or hangers are accepted.

» Paper:  All paper and paper cartons are recyclable. No small paper pieces, packaging, shredded paper, hard back books, egg cartons, or cardboard are accepted. Cardboard may be recycled at drop-off sites at 304 North Ashe Ave. and 1712 North Main Ave.

» Glass:  All glass bottles and jars are accepted. Please empty, rinse, and remove labels before placing in your bin. No mirrors, windows, glassware, or caps are accepted.

» Plastic:  All plastic bottles, tubs, jugs, and jars are recyclable. Empty, rinse, and remove labels before placing in your bin. No plastic pumps, pop-on lids, straws, single-use cups, plastic six-pack rings, to-go food containers, or Keurig coffee containers are accepted.

Thanks to the adoption of single-stream recycling, bins are no longer sorted curbside. Rear-loading garbage trucks may be used to collect recyclables. Please do not place recyclables in plastic or paper bags, as the material must be visible for sorting. Bins with any non-recyclable materials or any sorted bags will be disposed of in the trash stream.

Materials left outside recycling bins will not be collected for recycling.
