MOORESVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) – A five-year-old girl is expected to be okay after she was attacked by her family dog over the weekend.

WSIC news partner FOX 46 talked with neighbors who witnessed the Sunday afternoon attack on the 100 block of Burke Circle in Mooresville. It happened outside, on the porch, of where the victim and her family live.

“That was their dog, and it attacked their kid, and we were like, that’s really messed up. She doesn’t deserve that, you know?” said a neighbor on the street. “We just knew this was going to happen.”

Iredell County Animal Control officers said this is not the first time they’ve dealt with this pit bull. A neighbor told FOX 46 Charlotte that just days earlier, the same Pit Bull attacked a smaller dog on the same block.

The pit bull has been removed from the home while animal control officers investigate the weekend attack.

In the most recent incident, several people tried to step in and help by separating the dog from the child and calling 911.

Witnesses said the injuries the young girl sustained were to her upper-body and head.
