Two children were struck on Highway 21 Wednesday night near the Barium Springs Family YMCA, according to Trooper Jolly with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to Jolly, a mother and her three daughters were crossing the road around 8:50 with the oldest carrying the youngest.  One of the girls dropped her cell phone and the two went back to retrieve it when they were struck by a car traveling south.

The younger of the two suffered minor injuries.  The oldest child received a severe leg injury, which is thought to be non-life threatening.  Both were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center by ambulance for treatment.

Jolly says no charges will be filled in the case since the two were in the road at the time.  No names were released.
