MGSD names new Superintendent

PRESS RELEASE

Mooresville, NC — The Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education has appointed Dr. Stephen Mauney the new MGSD superintendent. Dr. Mauney is currently the Executive Director of Secondary Education and CTE and has been an administrator with Mooresville Graded School District since 1999 when he became an assistant principal at Mooresville High School. He replaces Dr. Mark Edwards who recently announced his plan to retire from public education and enter the private sector this August.

Our district has achieved great things under Dr. Edwards’ leadership, and I appreciate his work and dedication to MGSD and public education. The true strength of our district lies with our strong staff, great students, and committed parents and community. I know that through working together we will continue to grow and serve every child, every day,” said Dr. Mauney.

Dr. Mauney has an extensive educational background. He graduated Davidson College with his Bachelors Degree in 1991 and continued work on his Masters Degree at Appalachian State University. After completing his Masters Degree in 1993, Dr. Mauney started his educational career as a history teacher at Mooresville High School. He taught for six years before becoming assistant principal at Mooresville High School where he remained until becoming principal of Mooresville Middle School in 2006. In January 2008, Dr. Mauney was named Director of Operations for MGSD. Three years later in 2011, Dr. Mauney was appointed the position of Executive Director of Secondary Education and CTE which he continued to hold until being appointed as Superintendent.

Dr. Mauney is a North Carolina native. He and his wife, Lisa, have five children in the Mooresville Graded School District and have made Mooresville their home for the past 23 years.
