Sitting only about two blocks away from the site they plan to purchase, Mitchell Community College Trustees voted unanimously last night (editor’s note: Wednesday night) to move-forward with a contract for the old Davis Hospital.
WSIC broke the story Tuesday that the owner was going to sell.
The school plans to pay about four hundred thousand for the site and use it for the new allied health sciences building.
(AUDIO: We’re very excited about first of all the partnership that we’ve had with the city and the county, that’s what’s most important here, and we’ve been able to work together on this project.)
College President Doctor Tim Brewer who says the bond money voters approved last fall will pay for the building, not the land. That bill will be footed by the school, county and City of Statesville. We expect to know the cost each will pay sometime today.
Attorney Bill Pope told trustees that the school has ninety days to inspect the site and back-out if desired.
He says the current owner is responsible for tearing down the old building and cleaning up the site – he has about six months to do it.
