Man accused of assault on a female, ramming deputy’s patrol vehicle

On Sunday, September 29, 2019 at approximately 6:00 PM, Alexander County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call at a residence on Three Forks Church Road in Alexander County. Officers arrived on the scene, where they found a male subject and a female subject that had been involved in an altercation. During the course of the investigation, the male subject, identified as Tommie Lee Varner, W/M, age 47 of Taylorsville, who was inside a vehicle, rammed his vehicle into one of the responding officers’ patrol vehicles, causing damage to the vehicle. Varner then refused to follow officers’ commands and was arrested on scene.

Varner was charged with Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer (Vehicle), Assault on a Female, Vandalism-Damage to Personal Property, and Resisting Arrest. He was transported to the Alexander County Detention Center, where he was placed under a $50,000 secured bond. Varner has a first appearance date of Monday, September 30, 2019 in Alexander County District Court.
