A magnitude 2.6 earthquake was reported northeast of Wilkesboro in the Hays area late Sunday.
The earthquake was centered in Sawyer Road area north of Rock Creek Road and the Wilkes County Airport, according to the USGS. This happened shortly before midnight. Data from the agency shows residents in Winston-Salem and Boone may have felt the earthquake.
Light damage could be present for an area southwest of where the earthquake originated.
