Twenty-two individuals were sent to area hospitals Saturday after an awning collapsed at North Iredell High School.
According to Iredell Emergency Management, a box truck hit the awning causing it to collapse with multiple students underneath. Injuries sustained by those involved ranged from life threatening to minor.
Iredell-Statesville Schools spokeswoman Susie Wiberg wrote in an e-mail to WSIC Sunday evening that she visited four of five students still hospitalized at CMC. The students are said to be in good spirits. Another student remains hospitalized at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and is said to be recuperating.
Students were at the school for a band competition. Multiple fire departments and rescue squads were called to the scene.
