PRESS RELEASE

Huntersville, NC June 23, 2017 – The Aktion Club of Lake Norman, a group of special needs adults sponsored by the Lake Norman Kiwanis Club, received two awards this past week by The Arc of Mecklenburg County. The Arc of Mecklenburg County is a non-profit organization that seeks to make positive differences in the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.

The Lake Norman Aktion Club was one of six clubs cited for their success at an annual dinner held at Park Road Baptist Church in Charlotte. Nearly two dozen club members, parents, and advisors made the trip down to Charlotte attending the sold out awards dinner.

Allison “Allie” Serdinsky received the Newcomer of the Year Award. Allie, who joined the Aktion Club this past fall, will be installed next month as Vice President and serve as President in 2018. Allie has been very involved since she joined the club participating in several projects and activities as well as serving as a catalyst for new ideas and fundraisers.

The group was also presented the Service Project of the Year Award which recognized a two-month collection of athletic equipment and supplies which were in turn donated to Special Olympics. Much of the equipment was new and solicited by club members from friends and family.

The Aktion Club of Lake Norman, with approximately 20 members from Huntersville, Davidson, Cornelius, and Mooresville, is composed of special needs adults eighteen years of age or older. The club is open to any individual and meets on the fourth Friday 7 pm at the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce.
