Kannapolis man killed in Iredell motorcycle accident

On Tuesday, 4 June 2019, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on NC 3 (Coddle Creek Highway) at the intersection of Johnson Dairy Road.

A BMW passenger vehicle was traveling north on NC 3. A motorcycle was traveling south on NC 3. The BMW attempted to turn left onto Jonson Dairy Road, failed to yield the right of way, and collided with the motorcycle in the intersection. The driver of the BMW, Douglas Robert Catropa, 47, of Mooresville was not injured. The driver of the motorcycle, Shawn Clifton Soules, 47, of Kannapolis died at the scene.

Mr. Catropa was wearing a seatbelt; no impairment or phone distraction is suspected. Mr. Soules was wearing a helmet; no impairment or excessive speed is suspected. Investigating troopers will be in consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office concerning possible charges.
