FROM PRESS RELEASE
Statesville, NC – A local family will wake up on Christmas morning to a mountain of presents under the tree, and money for a holiday meal, thanks to a group of nurses at Iredell Memorial Hospital. The staff of the Critical Care Unit adopted a family for Christmas and donated more than $800 to help them through the holidays.
Every year the nurses take up donations for a charity or a family during the Christmas season. This year was special because they were able to help someone they had worked with and gotten to know on their unit. The former patient had been admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of Iredell Memorial Hospital with serious health issues. With the care and treatment of the CCU staff, this patient was eventually released and able to go home.
The CCU staff asked permission to adopt the patient’s family for the holidays. Donations rolled in, reaching $841.00. The money was used to pay for toys, gift cards for groceries, and other items to ensure that everyone will be able to enjoy this Christmas.
“We are so glad to be able to help make this a special Christmas for a former patient,” said CCU director Kathy Lail. “These nurses truly care for their patients, and their generosity is amazing to see. We’re even more grateful this family will be able to spend the holidays at home together.”
