Iredell Marine nominated for promotion to General

WASHINGTON – Iredell County native and Marine Corps Colonel William M. Jurney has been nominated for promotion to Brigadier General.

Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) wrote Colonel Jurney to offer his congratulations.

“As I reviewed your career and your remarkable rise from enlisted infantryman to commissioned officer, and soon, brigadier general, I found myself hoping Iredell County produces more William Jurneys.  America needs more talented young men and women who are willing to live a life of ‘service above self’ and proudly join the next generation of American heroes.”

Colonel Jurney is a 1982 graduate of North Iredell High School and played catcher for the UNC Charlotte baseball team.  He currently serves as the executive officer to the commander of the International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan.

Colonel Jurney’s promotion must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate before becoming official.
