Investigators say DNA evidence links teen to crime scene

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Tuesday, November 2, 2017, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of vehicles having been broken into in the Perth Road area near Troutman. During the break-ins, two firearms were stolen along with other items which were inside the vehicles. One vehicle was also stolen, and was later located in McDowell County.

Sgt. Stikeleather was assigned to these cases and began the investigation. During the course of the investigation Sgt. Stikeleather identified Xavier Antwon Bell of Charlotte as a possible suspect in the cases. A DNA sample was collected at one of the break-ins where a window was broken out. Samples of the collected blood were sent to the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory to hopefully identify a suspect.

On Monday, November 26, 2018 the results from the State Laboratory were sent back confirming Xavier Bell’s blood was left on scene from the broken window. Detective Clodfelter gathered the case files, and obtained sixty five charges against Xavier Bell for Felony Breaking and Entering into Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny of a Firearm, Misdemeanor larceny, Misdemeanor Damage to Property.

On Friday November 30, 2018 Bell was located at a residence in Charlotte with the use of an ankle monitor which he was currently wearing and taken into custody. Bell was then transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was served with the warrants. Magistrate P. Tutterrow issued Bell a 60,000 dollar secured bond.
