PRESS RELEASE

The Balloon Rally Charities, Inc. has announced that Bud Welch was named Interim Executive Director of the Carolina BalloonFest and Carolina Roots MusicFest, effective March 23. Welch is also the Publisher of Statesville Free News, and plans to maintain his current position while working part-time as Interim Executive Director.

“Bud Welch has experience with this organization and has chaired the BalloonFest when it was a volunteer-managed event,” The Balloon Rally Charities Board commented. “We have full confidence that he has the skills necessary to run the organization and put on this year’s events without missing a beat.”

Welch has more than 10 years of hands-on experience with the Carolina BalloonFest, having been a very active supporter of the festival both on and off the board. During his time on the board, Welch has led by example, serving as an active board member performing various tasks to ready the field for the festival.

Welch also served as Chairman of the Board during the 40th annual Carolina BalloonFest in 2013.

“I had a passion for the BalloonFest very early on and have worked diligently each year to ensure its success,” Welch said. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with this board. We plan to host two successful events in 2017. Our first event is in May meaning that I have my work cut out for me but I’m ready for the challenge.”

The Carolina Roots MusicFest will be held on May 19-20. The Carolina BalloonFest will be held Oct. 20-22.
