Improvements planned for I-40 between Statesville and Conover

STATESVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $34.4 million contract to improve 20 miles of Interstate 40 from mile marker 130 to 150 between Conover and Statesville.

As early as July 30, Contractor Maymead Inc. will start the project that includes milling and resurfacing both directions of the roadway, rebuilding shoulders and installing guardrail within the project limits.

The contract calls for work in one direction to be completed by August 2019, with the other direction to be finished by October 2020.

This was one of 25 road and bridge contracts recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. Per state law they went to the lowest qualified bidder for each project. The contracts are worth nearly $630 million.
