Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Sunday, April 25, 2021 the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a five month old child in respiratory distress at a home located at 657 Old Mountain Road, north of Troutman.
When the responding deputies arrived on scene, Troutman Fire, and Iredell County EMS personnel were already at the location. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene. The immediatearea was secured as an investigation into the child’s death was initiated.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Investigators along with Crime Scene Investigators responded to the address. A person of interest, Madison Cassidy Moore, was identified, and interviews were conducted. A search warrant for the residence was conducted and items of evidence were seized by Crime Scene Investigators at the residence.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on the victim. Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Investigators traveled to view the autopsy on Tuesday of this week, to witness the autopsy procedure.
The preliminary finding from the autopsy points to the cause of death as, environmental hyperthermia. This is consistent with the suspect making statements about leaving her child in a car seat, inside the car, for several hours on Sunday.
Based on all of the evidence gathered throughout this investigation, Detective John Adams applied for, and wasgranted, an Arrest Warrant against Madison Cassidy Moore on Thursday, April 29, 2021, for one count of Felony Involuntary Manslaughter.
Madison Cassidy Moore was arrested earlier today. She was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where she appeared before Magistrate D. Chambers who issued a 75,000.00 dollar secured bond on this charge.
