I-40 WB closed in Statesville after semi hits bridge

STATESVILLE, N.C. (WSIC NEWS) – I-40 westbound is shut down between the exits for Highway 115 and Highway 90 (exits 150 and 148) due to a crash where a tractor trailer hit a bridge.

According to the Statesville Fire Department, a semi hauling an empty above-ground fuel tank hit the Meachem Road bridge.  NCDOT has checked the bridge and confirmed its safety.  Meachem Road is now open for traffic.  There were no injuries in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.

A separate crash on I-77 southbound near Garner Bagnal Boulevard has cleared.  The Highway Patrol says a vehicle slid while merging onto the interstate, hit the guardrail, then another vehicle which was also struck by a third.  There were no injuries.
