Houpe asked County Commissioners to remove sales tax for next year

Gene Houpe and Scotty Brown from the Iredell County Board of Commissioners have been working together on how to best use stimulus funds the county has received. At last night’s Board of Commissioners meeting, Houpe made a motion to remove consideration of a sales tax next year and instead use stimulus monies to fill the county’s revenue needs.

Houpe stated that “being a conservative board, we never go to the tax payers for revenue requests unless there is no other options. I feel the stimulus money is a revenue stream for some one time expenditures not ongoing annual expense.”
