Highway 150 work over Lake Norman delayed

CHARLOTTE – Beginning Friday, June 19, weekend lane closures will be in place on the N.C. 150 bridge over Lake Norman at the Catawba-Iredell county line. The lane closures are part of a preservation project for the 54-year-old bridge.

Friday, June 19, is the first of four consecutive weekend-long lane closures that will begin each Friday at 7 p.m. and continue to Monday at 6 a.m. Work will begin and end at approximately the same time during each of the four weekends, weather permitting. At no time will the bridge be closed to traffic completely.

The lane closures will allow contractor American Bridge Company to mill and prepare the bridge deck for a new overlay. A deck overlay helps extend the life of the bridge deck by protecting it from aging and weathering.

The $3.6 million contract for the bridge preservation project is scheduled for completion this summer. Work on the project began last year.
