FOP partners with Cooking for Christ for annual fundraiser

Today, the North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police 10 (Iredell County) and Cooking for Christ worked together to cook and sell their Hickory smoked Boston butts. This fundraiser benefits“My Sister’s House,” a safe place for women and childrenfleeing domestic and sexual violence, and “Fifth Street Ministries”.  Rodney James, President of the FOP, said, “the purpose of cooking butts is simple. We use the proceeds to provide meals for needy families.” Last year they served 671 families and should exceed that number this year. “Every year, this is one of our most successful fundraisers, and I have no doubt this year will be the same,” James said.

Burney Paslay was emotional when he spoke about Cooking for Christ. When they first started this ministry, he knew this was God’s plan. As it continued to grow, he partnered with West Iredell JROTC and Troutman Middle School to find families in need. Paslay said he’s honored to have been used by God, our Lord and Savior to help these families. It has truly been a blessing to him and his family. Tonight, West Iredell JROTC will clean the smokers from the Boston butts so the volunteers can start smoking turkeys for tomorrows dinner.

Tomorrow they will feed all Iredell County emergency services personnel: police, fire, EMS, and ECOM, as a thank you forworking on Thanksgiving Day. The FOP provides a full meal, including turkey, potatoes, corn, mac-n-cheese, green beans, yeast rolls and pumpkin pie.
