Fatal Collision: Caldwell County – 14 October 2020

   

HUDSON – On Wednesday, October 14, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and is investigating a fatal collision in Caldwell County on US 321 at the intersection of Mission Road.  A 2009 Pontiac Vibe was traveling north on US 321 and rear-ended a 2007 Honda Accord which had stopped for a red traffic signal.  After briefly speaking with the driver of the Accord and a witness, the driver of the Pontiac fled the scene.  While running across US 321, he was struck by a 2011 Honda Odyssey in the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Pontiac died at the scene due to injuries received during the second collision; he has not been identified.  The driver of the Accord, Keaton Allen, 25, of Hickory, was not injured.  The driver of the Odyssey, Lesia Spears, 58, of Lenoir was not injured.

Portions of US 321 were closed for approximately 2 hours during the on-scene investigation.  No charges are anticipated although the investigation is on-going.
