Democrat Iredell Sheriff candidate Rick Ervin is calling for a series of three debates between Republican Candidate Darren Campbell, Unaffiliated candidate Sean Schutt and himself. WSIC is working to get comments from the other candidates about the request. The following is a portion of the letter calling for debates:
On November 4, one of us will be elected to become the next chief law enforcement officer for Iredell County. I invite both of you to join me in three debates or joint appearances in September and October so the voters of the county will have a chance to hear about our backgrounds, qualifications and positions on the issues. They should also have a chance to ask questions and get our responses.
The challenges that face the northern part of the county, the southern part of the county and Statesville are quite different. For that reason, I suggest we schedule an event in each of these areas and work with one or more sponsors on these plans. Since the unofficial kick off to the fall campaign season is Labor Day, I suggest the events begin after Labor Day and conclude by mid-October.
My campaign manager, Sarah Harvey, and I will be happy to meet with you and your campaign staff members to work out the details of these events. I know the fall months will be a busy time for all of us, so it would be good to get these plans made within the next two weeks.
