Downtown Statesville Development Corporation holds annual meeting

Statesville, NC – Downtown Statesville Development Corporation (DSDC) held its Annual Meeting on June 27 at the Iredell Arts Council/The Old Jail located at 203 S. Meeting Street in Downtown Statesville. The following officers were approved for 2017-2018: Tip Nicholson of Statesville ABC Board as Chairman; Alex Walker of Walker Robinson Clark Insurance as Secretary and Carla Steele of Norris, Stewart & Ralston as Treasurer.

A new Board Member, Carey Parker, Parker Law Offices, was elected. We also had four existing board members that were elected to serve a second term. Those include John Childress with blueharbor bank, Kelli Simko with 220 Cafe, Tip Nicholson of Statesville ABC Board, and Kent Spears of Willily Construction, Inc.

2015-2017 Chairman Liz Petree of Wine Maestro presided over the meeting which highlighted and recognized achievements of the previous year. The meeting featured guest speaker Gene Rees. Gene has developed and built 10 residential condominium projects in Surry County and Wilkes County, totaling over 300 residential units and has renovated over 20 downtown commercial properties. He shared the importance of increasing downtown residential living and what Statesville will have to do to attract and encourage it in our downtown.

Eighteen new businesses were recognized for their investment and contribution to the economic vitality of Downtown Statesville.
