Congressman Patrick McHenry presented a check for $375,827 to Statesville Fire Department today. This FEMA “Assistance to Firefighter Grant” allows SFD to purchase 54 new SCBAs (self-contained breathing apparatus) or one per riding position. Five additional packs including thermal imaging camera built into the PASS (personal alert safety system) device gives every truck in all locations this capability.

This was achieved by the incredible team of grant writers within SFD. Battalion Chief Joshua Smith, Captain Brian Mitchell, Captain Kyle Bell, Chief Dan Nicholson, and Fire Fighter Steve Taylor work tirelessly to provide grant money to the City of Statesville Fire Department for equipment and personnel. The team has received three “Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response” (SAFER) grants totaling $1.6 milliondollars in federal allocation, that allowed SFD to hire additional personnel. Statesville Fire Department is internationally accredited through Center for Public Safety Excellence, one of 280 in the world. This provides valuable date for this team of grant writers to get what they need.
