It’s official – the City of Statesville will help Mitchell Community College buy the old Davis Hospital site.

The approval for a seventy-five thousand dollar contribution came at last night’s Council meeting according to an e-mail from City spokeswoman Nancy Davis.

Council members also approved spending more than sixty-three thousand from the streetscape construction fund for a pocket park at the corner of North Center and Water Streets downtown. The property will be leased from Gordon Industries at a cost of one dollar per year.

If the property is sold before the lease expires, money will be re-paid to the city.

The Statesville City Council also made its approval of the Love’s Site plan official last night. That opens the door for the possibility of an appeal by those opposed to the east Statesville construction of a Love’s Truck Stop.
