Fire Chief Curt Deaton says the driver suffered minor injuries. The apartment was occupied, but that person was not harmed. The building inspector has been called to check the structure.

Love’s has started construction on its new east-Statesville truck stop. The controversial property has been the subject of a multiyear legal battle which recently came to an end.

Opponents have been worried about traffic and noise, while those in favor say it means new jobs. The truck stop is being constructed along I-40 at the intersection of Highway 64 and Old Mocksville Road.

Love’s plans to have a Chester’s Chicken and McDonald’s inside the 12,000 square-foot main retail building. It will employ about seventy full and part-time employees. The company hopes to open early next year.
