TROUTMAN, NC (WSIC NEWS) – An eastern North Carolina drowned after jumping in Lake Norman Saturday afternoon, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
The man has been identified as 32-year-old Jeffery Wayne Cooper, Jr. of Windsor. He jumped from a pontoon boat near Lake Norman State Park around 2 p.m., but never resurfaced. His body was found about fifty yards away around 6 p.m., according to Captain Brian Fink with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. Twelve others were on the boat at the time.
The body was located nearly 60 feet below the surface. Investigators are still working to determine why the man did not come back up after jumping in.
