LAKE NORMAN, N.C. (WSIC NEWS) – A 22-year-old man never resurfaced after jumping into Lake Norman late Saturday afternoon, according to NC Wildlife.
Sergeant Ron Robertson with NC Wildlife tells WSIC the man’s body was found in about 15-feet of water late Sunday morning.
According to Robertson, the man was on a boat with nine others in a cove near the mouth of McCrary Creek. The group decided to go swimming and the man jumped in wearing a life jacket. According to Robertson, it appears the jacket was not put on properly and came off when the man jumped in the water. Someone jumped-in and tried to help but was unsuccessful.
According to Robertson, it was reported the man knew how to swim. He says alcohol was on the boat but does not appear to be a factor.
